Fuensanta Community Ecological Garden

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Huerto Fuensanta is an urban garden located on the site of the old Fuensanta Cinema on Calle Hernando de Magallanes in the Fuensanta neighborhood (Cordoba) in the city of Cordoba (Spain). The Huerto Fuensanta is an independent citizen initiative with the aim of recovers an abandoned public site for more than 20 years.  The ecological garden is part of the project of Colaborativa.eu that, in collaboration with numerous architects, individuals, collectives and social agents, have the aim of recover abandoned public plots by neighbors taking first action. It has a garden and an outdoor area where you can perform all kinds of activities on culture, art, nature, sports, health, etc.  

 

KEY ACTIVITIES: from 2012 to 2014, every week, a couple of members joined together to recover the face of the area. The project objectives are social, collaborative and educational, which mean to improve the neighbors through an initiative that promotes healthy eating and teamwork of neighbors by creating sustainable models. All activities are free of charges, coordinated by volunteers and consisted of a walk around the neighborhood, a building recycled furniture workshop, an urban vegetable garden workshop (most popular) and an urbanism workshop for children. 

 

RELEVANT DIMENSION: restoration, regeneration, land use and urban development. Sustainable agriculture, workshops, co-planning, consultations.
