Die Urbanisten

SHORT DESCRIPTION: Die Urbanisten is a non-profit association founded in Dortmund that aims to improve the cohabitation of local people in the public city space by developing new perspectives for living spaces. The shape of the city is a reflection of existing cultures and the individual ideas of the inhabitants. According to Die Urbanisten's vision, residents have a responsibility to leave their mark on their spaces, contributing actively and creatively. 


 
KEY ACTIVITIES: The activities of Die Urbanisten are developed in 5 areas of action: 

  • Recycling and DIY: in particular, it is a woodworking workshop where, in addition to useful tools and worktops, Die Urbanisten also offers professional knowledge and working techniques. 

  • Urban planning and development: it carries out projects in the neighbourhoods and with the neighbourhoods, including the citizens in the process of planning. Collaboration as a step forward for sustainable development. 

  • Art in public space: in this area Die Urbanisten designs unconventional solutions for the decoration of indoor and outdoor areas, together with young and old people. It often supports urban projects of public bodies with workshops and events. 

  • Urban games: through the game, Die Urbanisten aims to create opportunities for aggregation that unite citizens, breaking down social divisions. In this way, it also creates a real sense of belonging to the city. 

  • Urban gardening and agriculture: exploring new ways of producing food to find a solution to the challenge of the continuing growth of the world's population, of the reduction of agricultural land and climate change, convinced that these responses also bring social and environmental benefits.
