De Ceuvel

SHORT DESCRIPTION: De Ceuvel is an ex-shipyard located on the Van Hasselt canal of the river IJ that bathes the city of Amsterdam. The shipyard, opened in 1920, closed on the threshold of the new millennium and in 2014, after a year of renovation, reopens in a new guise: an urban office park for creative and social companies. It aims to become a reference point for the work of companies in a sustainable and technologically advanced environment. De Ceuvel has docked at the pier seventeen floating boats considered the most significant. It recovered and renovated them. Now, some of them are shared, others are occupied individually, and others can be rented by anyone. On land, in the former shipyard rooms, a bar, a hotel and many other activities have been built. De Ceuvel is constantly changing, flexible to the most innovative ideas and attentive to the ideas of volunteers and citizens.

KEY ACTIVITIES: at the base of all De Ceuvel's activities there is the requalification of the territory, from an aesthetic point of view, with the modern and innovative renovation and the attention to the art forms, and from an environmental point of view. Around the floating houses De Ceuvel realized rigs with plants of phytopurification. Technological experimentation also makes it possible to continuously improve energy efficiency and manage waste in new ways, with a focus on a circular economy. In the park there are about 150 photovoltaic panels, a biogas boat is being built that will convert organic waste into biogas for the cafe and there is an aquaponic greenhouse that produces herbs and vegetables. Any residue is reused for the construction or production of other elements. De Ceuvel, as well as being already the seat of numerous business activities, offers the possibility of renting some of its floating offices, or co-working spaces and conference rooms. A catering service is also available inside the bar. Finally, De Ceuvel offers its citizens a wide range of educational experiences for all ages: from primary school projects to professional masterclasses.
