Allmende-Kontor

SHORT DESCRIPTION: In 2010, 13 community garden and urban agriculture activists and researchers created Allmende-kontor, a networking site where they can share practices, news, opinions and collaborate in urban development and help each other. Allmende-kontor is also a point of reference for public institutions which collaborates with for the management and enhancement of public gardens in Berlin and beyond. Allmende-kontor responds to questions and demands from the city world: cultural and biological diversity, participatory urban planning, urban ecology, sustainable consumption and food, solidarity and civic engagement. 

 

KEY ACTIVITIES: in 2011 the founding group of Allmende-kontor created a community garden, at the beginning of the ex-Tempelhof airfield, an area of 5,000 m², starting with 20 raised-bed, but it's incredibly grown in few months and reaches 250 places with the collaboration of 500 self-organized gardeners. The activities are scheduled and managed in regular appointment, every first Saturday of the month there are meetings for all gardeners of the association, while the organizational meetings every second Tuesday of the month.  

Allmende-kondor is also the promoter and signatory, together with other realities, of the “Manifesto of Urban Gardening”, a new collective movement that, with the manifesto, aims to express a political position, contribute to discussions on the future of the city and on the importance of common goods.
