Activity description

The safety evaluation activity of agricultural machinery has been mainly conducted in the testing department of IAM, NARO. This evaluation activity includes the safety equipment inspection, the ROPS inspection, and the automated agri-machinery inspection.

The safety equipment inspection confirms the safety requirements (devices, guards, dimensions, distances, displays, etc.) based on our safety standards for agricultural machinery. This inspection can involve various kinds of machines for agricultural use.

The ROPS inspection confirms the strength and safety zone of safety cabs/safety frames on tractors and some kinds of transporters in accordance with the domestic/OECD test code.

The automated agri-machinery inspection is carried out to evaluate safety measures (enable/disable function, human/obstacle detection, display, etc.) for automatic field operation. The machinery, which has an auto-steering function operated by a driver on the machine, is applied to this inspection. However, the inspection for autonomous machines is restricted to machinery satisfying the prescribed specifications.

In addition, our department has conducted performance tests at clients' requests and research on safety evaluation.
