Kinetic Investigation of Tobermorite Synthesis for the Recovery of Carcinogenic Respirable Crystalline Silica

This study presents an End-of-Waste strategy that transforms hazardous quartzite quarry dust into functional tobermorite through a low-energy hydrothermal process. By recycling respirable crystalline silica, a dangerous processing by-product, the method effectively neutralizes health risks while upcycling waste into valuable material. Crucially, thermal analyses revealed the consistent formation of carbonate phases during synthesis, indicating that the process facilitates incidental CO2 sequestration. This dual-action approach offers a sustainable circular economy solution that aligns environmental safety with climate goals.
