Multi-methodological characterization of the sediments and quarry by-products supplied by the involved companies: basalt powders (0-50µm and 0-200µm), clayey silt and quartz sand residues.
Comprehensive chemical, mineralogical, and petrographic analyses were performed to precisely define the composition of the materials selected for the experimental phases. The results revealed, for example, that the material commercially classified as 'basalt' by the partner company is, more accurately, a tephritic phonolite. Furthermore, the sediment was identified as a clayey silt. These preliminary findings are essential for evaluating the technical performance and environmental suitability of the raw materials in subsequent valorization processes (production of new geomaterials and geopolymers) and sustainability assessments.
