12th Bologna’s convention on crystal forms - CF@BO n.12

11th Workhsop on Crystal Forms, Bologna 2021

Dear Participant

All is ready for the 12th Bologna’s convention on crystal formsCF@Bo n.12 – taking place on 10-12 September 2023 at the University of Bologna.

As in the previous eleven occasions, the meeting is organized jointly by the Molecular Crystal Engineering group of the Department of Chemistry G. Ciamician and by PolyCrystalLine S.p.A., a former spinoff company of the MCE group.

In keeping with the tradition of CF@Bo, the main objective of the meeting will be that of providing a forum for an open academy-industry discussion of the new challenges that the theme “crystal forms” presents daily to researchers in both working environments.

CF@Bo will also represent an opportunity for young researchers to meet senior scientists and researchers from both academy and industry and to establish new collaborations. The historical G. Ciamician Chemistry Department building and the Aemilia hotel premises provide a good location for appreciating history and comfort.

After the exhausting years of the pandemic, we are happy to meet again in person, shaking hands, drinking together, and enjoying scientific and social interactions. Besides, Bologna is a beautiful medieval town, the site of the oldest university in the Western world.

The community gathering in Bologna for CF@Bo n.12 is very well balanced in terms of scientific contributions by the speakers and in terms of participation from industry and academy, as well as in terms of gender and nationality. In two and a half days, we will listen to the 32 oral presentations delivered by a number of top-notch scientists equally distributed between academy and research institutions and private labs and industry. Besides, on Monday 11, 54 posters will be presented and the best posters will be awarded poster prizes sustained by Crystal Growth & Design and CrystEngComm. We are also looking forward to the five short presentations by our gold sponsors and gratefully acknowledge also the support of a number of silver sponsors.

Abstracts of lectures, posters and sponsor presentations will available for download from MCE and PCL web sites. Please note that the maximum space available for the posters is 100 (width) x 200 (height) cm. Recommended 70 x 100 cm.

As many as ten registration fees of young participants could also be waved thanks to the contribution of individual speakers and of the Italian Crystallographic Association.

Following an ongoing discussion within the community, a special session on the additional challenges faced by women in science has been organized on Monday 11 between 17:30 and 18:30. A mini-questionnaire on the important issue of sustainability of meeting and conferences will also be administered during the meeting and the results discussed at closing.

We are grateful to the following sponsors: AIC (Italian Association of Crystallography), Anton Paar Italia, Dompé, SMS/Nordtest, Mettler-Toledo S.p.A., Bruker, PolyCrystalLine CMDO, Malvern Panalytical, Achelit srl, Netzsch, Technobis, Amofor.

The organizing committee: MCE: Dario Braga, Fabrizia Grepioni, Lucia Maini, Simone d’Agostino. PCL: Stefano Luca Giaffreda, Marco Curzi, Enrico Modena, Marco Glucini. Meeting Secretary: Ester M. Braga.
