Main research activities/topics/projects

Applications are solicited for descriptive and/or experimental studies in any domain of intercomprehension (also known as Receptive Multilingualism and Translanguaging; henceforth IC for brevity), i.e. the possibility of understanding a language one has never studied intentionally thanks to its similarity to
a known “bridge” language. IC has relevant implications for several fields, including Second Language Acquisition, language teaching, the revitalization of endangered languages, and language policies more generally.
Jacopo Saturno’s research focuses on the development of plurilingualism through the IC-based teaching of additional foreign languages based on existing competence in related languages. All instructional settings are eligible, from preschool (e.g. éveil aux langues) to lifelong learning. Proposals on Slavic languages are particularly welcome.
