Post-production techniques

Depending on the objective, various graphic processing operations are chosen: if you want to manipulate the image for purposes of storytelling, understanding, readability, a photo-retouching is carried out, if instead you need to recover missing or lost characteristics or return an object to its state virtual restoration operations will be carried out.

 By intervening on the scans of books and manuscripts with virtual restoration techniques, a series of operations that are always reversible can be performed, such as:

• Remove traces of scotch and glue;
• Remove the supporting elements of the cards;
• Reconstruct tears and missing details;
• Straighten images and photographs;
• Improve and recover tone and colors by modifying hue and saturation;
• Remove the reflections of the scanner on the plastic;
• Recover careless portions and hidden details;

GIMP è un software libero multipiattaforma per l'elaborazione digitale delle immagini. Fra i vari usi possibili vi sono fotoritocco, fotomontaggio, conversioni tra molteplici formati di file, animazioni, e processamento in batch in linea.
