Mission

The Experimental Lab of the Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (LILEC) is a research lab set up thanks to the MIUR Departments of Excellence Initiative (L. 232 of 01/12/2016).

The Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art hardware and software equipment for experimental, computational and applied research in the fields of linguistics, translation and cultural studies, and more generally Digital Humanities, also applied to literature and philology.

The purpose of the Experimental Lab is to assist the members of the LILEC Department in their research activity and to promote the creation of digital resources at the Department. The Lab provides researchers with the tools for a variety of purposes, including:

- the collection, processing, and analysis of corpora of oral, written, and digital texts;
- the empirical-experimental study of language and text/discourse in all its manifestations;
- the digital critical edition of manuscript texts and the marking of texts;
- the creation of databases for the synchronic and diachronic study of texts;
- the modeling and visualization of linguistic and bibliographic data;
- the extraction of data from the web and from parallel translation corpora for the elaboration of specialized multilingual dictionaries.

The Lab also organizes training events aimed at providing LILEC members with theoretical and practical (inter)disciplinary know-how, promoting a broad methodological reflection on the diversity of linguistic and textual data.
