Report 14/07/2020

The decisions taken by hotel managers appear stable in both sectors.

Milan: less puzzled expectations.

In Milan, the trends of the previous weeks are confirmed and the decisions taken by hotel managers appear stable. There is a clear distinction between the 60% of hotels that will work in July (AB1_day and AB14_days converge) and the share of hotels open from September to December, which slightly exceeds 80% (AB56_days and AB140_days are very similar). The share of hotels which offer rooms in December (AB140_days), however, appears stationary and this is not an encouraging signal for the 20% of hotels that do not offer rooms from today to December. The share of hotels open in the central week of August is gradually decreasing, in line with the closure of many firms in the metropolitan area.

Venice: Les jeux sont faits in Venice.

The decisions taken by hotel managers are confirmed also in Venice. Compared to the last week, all the dynamics seem substantially strengthened. The percentage of hotels offering rooms from now up to December ranges between 65% and 75%, with the largest share touched by hotels offering rooms in early September (AB56_days). The shares of hotels that offer rooms in July, August, and December basically coincide (AB14_days, AB28_days and AB140_days). Even in Venice, one out of four hotels has no room offered yet for the 2020. The strong uncertainty on the timing and conditions of international tourist flow reopening seems to hamper many Venetian hotel structures.
