"Una pagina che non sia una pagina scritta". Scrittura e critica alla cultura in Carla Lonzi

Lecture by Linda Bertelli (IMT School for Advanced Studies, Lucca)
Moderated by: Stefano Marino

This talk aims to focus on Carla Lonzi’s relationship with art, starting from a theme that runs through her entire body of work: the critique of culture as a mechanism of legitimisation, capable of recognising value exclusively in those who work with the aim of production and according to the codes of ‘success’. Within this framework, art is recognised as the space in which these aspects take on particular intensity, precisely because, in Lonzi’s critical work, art presents itself as the realm of freedom and of detachment from the codes of success. I propose to analyse the trajectory of this critique of culture by setting against one another two conceptual pairs that appear, in different forms, in Lonzi’s writings: the artist-spectator pair, on the one hand, and the author-interlocutor pair, on the other.

The Cycle aims to foster a constantly stimulating and constructive dialogue through which the Visual Arts and Fashion section of the Department of Arts at the University of Bologna engages with the city on themes relating to art history in its most diverse manifestations and methodologies.

The aim is to demonstrate the vitality and wealth of perspectives through which research and teaching in the historical-artistic disciplines are practised today.
