W8 Physical Cytometer

W8 is conceived to perform a label-free biophysical characterization of 3D cellular models, or spheroids. It allows to simultaneously measure weight, mass density and size of the spheroid through a gravimetric method. W8 analyses living or fixed spheroids, between 100 and 600 microns in diameter, with a size- or mass density-based sorting function that allows to recover targeted spheroids’ sub-populations.

W8 has 2 cameras to visualize the spheroids in real-time during the analyses and it works with standard cell culture tubes (15 and 50 ml, V bottom). It works with a personal computer with LIBRA software that acquires and performs data analyses in real-time.

Apllications:

  • W8 performs a label-free biophysical analysis of mass density as a marker of intra-population heterogeneity in quality control.
  • W8 analyses the effect of drugs on the mass density of spheroids, allowing to use mass density as a predictive marker of drug permeation in spheroids obtained from cancer cell lines.
  • Quantification of mass density is used as a non-invasive marker of growth and maturation of spheroids and organoids, and a marker of cancer progression in spheroids obtained from cancer cell lines.
