🚀 Kickoff of Project BOOST! 🚀
We concluded the kickoff of our Horizon Europe project, BOOST "Building Blocks for Iodine Thrusters," hosted over an inspiring two-day meeting in the historic city of Forlì, at the University of Bologna.
This milestone event marks the beginning of an ambitious journey towards redefining the boundaries of iodine based space propulsion technologies. In particular, the following key aspects will be tackled:
- Developing smart storage solutions to enable future missions with on-orbit refueling, ensuring our readiness for the next era of space exploration.
- RF Cathode Enhancement: Advancing thruster neutralization capabilities through innovative iodine-fed RF cathode technology.
- Fluidic System Improvements: Customizing fluidic subsystems for compatibility with iodine and with a view into mass production, leading the charge in propulsion technology evolution.
- Iodine-Specific Testing Infrastructure: Building dedicated test facilities and diagnostic tools for iodine thrusters, pioneering new standards in the field.
Our kickoff didn't just focus on planning and strategizing; it also offered us a chance to explore the Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna's laboratories, showcasing the cutting-edge research and collaborative spirit that will drive our project forward. A special acknowledgment to Prof. Gabriele Bellani for the exclusive tour of the CICLOPE "Long pipe" wind tunnel facility at the University of Bologna, a unique installation for researching wall-bounded turbulent phenomena, and for enlightening us on its operations.
The event concluded with a delightful dinner, fostering camaraderie and shared vision among the team.
The meeting was also attended by Athanasios PETRIDIS, a European Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA) representative, in the role of Project Officer.
As this is our first post on our newly minted LinkedIn page, we invite you to join us on this exciting journey. Follow us to stay updated on the groundbreaking advancements and milestones we anticipate achieving with Project BOOST.
