We are pleased to announce that the BOOST project will be represented at the 2025 Electrodeless Plasma Workshop, taking place July 3–4 at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid.

This international event brings together researchers and experts in the field of electrodeless plasma propulsion, with a particular focus on helicon plasma thrusters, electron-cyclotron plasma thrusters, and other advanced concepts in electric propulsion.

Our project coordinator has been invited as a speaker and will deliver a talk entitled:

Alternative Propellants for the Next Generation of Small Satellite Propulsion

The presentation will explore the potential of alternative propellants—such as iodine and water—for enabling future small satellite missions that are more sustainable, flexible, and compatible with in-orbit refueling strategies. These topics are directly aligned with the goals of the BOOST project, which aims to support long-duration missions and reduce space debris by developing refuelable electric propulsion systems based on iodine.

The talk will also highlight key technical aspects relevant to the development of these systems, including:

  • the complexity of modeling molecular plasmas generated by these alternative propellants,

  • the challenges posed by material compatibility and corrosion,

  • and the need for dedicated testing facilities capable of safely handling these propellants and characterizing their behavior.

Participation in the workshop represents a valuable opportunity to share BOOST's progress with the international research community, foster scientific exchange, and build new collaborations for the next phases of the development.
