Creative workshop

The workshop is conducted by the Centre for Contemporary Poetry at the University of Bologna and will be run by Maria Borio and Federico Italiano.

Maria Borio is a poet and essayist. She holds a PhD in Contemporary Italian Literature and edits the poetry section of the literary journal Nuovi Argomenti. Her most recent poetry collection, Trasparenza, has been translated in the United States, while her previous collection, L'altro limite, was translated in Argentina. Among the awards she has received are the Mauro Maconi Prize and the Città di Fiumicino Prize. In 2024, Briefe aus der Roten Wueste – Lettere dal deserto rosso, written with Tom Schulz and translated by Pia-Elizabeth Leuschner and Paola Del Zoppo, was published in Germany by Gutleut Verlag. She is an editor of the cultural website le parole e le cose. Founder of the European festival poesiæuropa, she collaborates with programmes on RAI Radio 3 and with the Chair of Contemporary Italian Literature at the University of Perugia.

Federico Italiano is a poet and translator. After many years as a researcher in Vienna at the Austrian Academy of Sciences, he now teaches Comparative Literature at Sapienza University of Rome. Following his debut collection Nella costanza (2003), he published L’invasione dei granchi giganti (2010), L’impronta (2014), Un esilio perfetto. Poesie scelte 2000–2015 (2015), Habitat (2020), and La grande nevicata (2023). His poetry has been translated into numerous languages and included in several anthologies in Italy and abroad. He has received various literary awards, including the Giuseppe Tirinnanzi Prize and the Ceppo Poetry Prize.
