CAPACITY BUILDING

WALADU is an international project designed to improve the quality of archeological and historical education in Iraq, thereby increasing job opportunities for Iraqi students.

The WALADU team will first work to modernize, proposing an innovative educational offer, the three-year degree courses in archeology and ancient history in Iraqi universities. Furthermore, the actions implemented will strengthen the teaching capacity, the design of teaching units and the production of innovative knowledge of the local teaching staff. Finally, international collaborations will be promoted between the European Union and the Iraqi universities to initiate academic exchanges at all levels, including mobility within an internationally recognized and regulated system.
These results will be achieved by starting a collaboration between the staff of the Iraqi universities and that of the European partners, identifying the problems and needs of the higher education system in Iraq. Then, four academics of ordinary and associate professors and twelve researchers from each of the Iraqi universities involved will receive intensive training in Europe at WALADU's European partners.
The Iraqi academic staff and the European WALADU team will then collaborate to create new teaching units in English and Arabic, complete with new teaching materials and equipment, which will be tested with a workshop designed for the occasion. At this point, the new three-year courses in archeology and ancient history, developed by the WALADU team, can be activated in each of the three Iraqi universities.
