IMPALA: Internationalisation and Modernisation Programme for Academics, Leaders and Administrators in South Africa

Third Mission Projects; Sub-Saharan Africa

KA2 Capacity building in the field of higher education; 2015-2018

The IMPALA project is part of Key Action 2: Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education, funded by the European Commission, and aims to create a network of European and South African universities and educational organizations to meet the needs of the South African higher education community.

Its goal is to develop clear and viable internationalization strategies within IMPALA's South African universities, so as to put them on a par and give them the much needed starting point for future international cooperation initiatives. The project will bring IMPALA's South African universities to a more advanced level in terms of management and internationalization strategies by training staff and strengthening structures.

The IMPALA project is composed of 9 partners: 5 European higher education organizations (University of Antwerp, University of Bologna, University of Graz, Utrecht Network, Academic Cooperation Association - ACA) and 4 South African universities (Cape Peninsula University of Technology, University of Limpopo, University of Fort Hare, University of Venda).

The final objective of the IMPALA project is to translate the policies and strategies into action, and to lay the foundations for a solid partnership between a European network of universities and a South African network of universities that will engage in consortium cooperation initiatives by consortium .
