All of the University of Bologna's Industrial Design (ICAR13) faculty and researchers operate as the Research Unit of the DA Department and are active in the achievement of the following institutional goals:

ADVANCED DESIGN UNIT

Design cultures and practices in the University of Bologna are developed with special reference to Advanced Design, to put design at the service of contemporary challenges:

→SCENARIOS AND ANTICIPATION
→STUDIES ON CHANGE
→RESPONSIBLE AND SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
→TECHNOLOGY FORESIGHT

METHODOLOGY

The systematic design practice allows us to continuously update topics for study and in-depth observation that are fertile ground for design applications, clarifying effects, influences and impacts on society.
This combination of research and action in real-life settings feeds a circular network, designing a learning structure and process based on a quadruple helix approach able to connect research, companies, public entities and communities. The experiential learning and the development of an entrepreneurial mindset incentive the synergies in between design education and the production environment of the Emilia-Romagna Region, and beyond, in terms of:
→networking activities with emerging companies and organizations
→consultancy and special projects
→linked initiatives to strengthen the third mission of the University
→knowledge exchange and value co-creation thanks to the capitalization of collective intelligence in specific or cross-sectorial networks, also in connection with the Regional Clusters structure
