"In this talk, I will give a personal account of how the Department of Mathematics became the first Internet node at the University of Bologna and one of the first in all of Italy back in 1989. In addition to the numerous technical challenges, this effort presented many political and cultural hurdles, particularly for a newcomer like myself."
