Accademia delle Scienze – Lectura Dantis

The Lectura Dantis is one of the most deeply rooted and most important aspects of the Italian literary criticism – having a scientific as well as participatory, and specialistic as well as educational role. It consists in the reading  and interpretation of all the hundred “cantos” of Dante’s  Divine Comedy, explaining also other aspects and situations of Dante’s work. All the most important  Dante scholars have been involved in the Lecturae that took place in succession in the XIX and XX centuries in the main Dante-related  towns (Ravenna, Verona, Florence, Rome, etc.)

Since also Bologna is a “Città Dantesca”, and some of the preminent  Dante’s reviewers are professors in the University of Bologna and members of its Academy, starting from 2009 the first new XXI century Lectura Dantis has been held in this town jointly promoted by the Academy of Sciences  of the Bologna Institute (Class of Moral Sciences) and the Department of Italian Studies of the University of Bologna. The Lectura Dantis took place  as a series of conferences held in the premises of the Academy of Sciences aimed to be completed in 2021, that is exactly the year of the seven-hundredth anniversary of Dante’s death. Expert in literature but also in history and of history of political thought  from all over the world,  combined scientific rigour and interpretative innovation with a multidisciplinary approach addressed to the entire town.
